byNew recycled plastic partnership boosts green credentials and local economy
Daniels Healthcare has taken another great leap forward in its continued investment and commitment to sustainability.
Here’s what’s coming…
From Spring 2022, the recycled plastic material used in the SHARPSGUARD® range of sharps and anatomical containers will be sourced from a UK supplier.
Using plastic waste collected from UK curb sides, the plastics are sorted, flaked, cleaned, and turned into post-consumer recycled resin (PCR) granules ready to be used in the manufacture of Daniels Healthcare sharps containers.
The change is a key part of our Sustainability Promise which includes the continual evaluation and evolution of product ranges and processes.
Supplier partnership for Post-Consumer Resin (PCR)
Not only is our new supplier a UK-based company, the facility is just 24 miles from the Daniels Healthcare manufacturing site, further reducing transport-related carbon emissions.
The company was founded 20 years ago and now operates a state-of-the-art plastics reprocessing plant spread over four acres.
Kevin Cundy, Head of Sales and Marketing, UK & Ireland, and our Sustainability Champion, says:
“We are delighted to be working with one of the UK’s leading accredited polymer recycling organisations. Not only is this new partnership reducing the amount of virgin plastics used and Co2 emissions, it is also supporting the local and UK economy.
We have worked closely with the team for months to ensure the perfect blend of PCR is made for our ranges so that polypropylene performs in the way needed for sharps containers; bouncy enough to withstand the drop test but hard enough to withstand needle penetration.”
The plastics recycling plant Director said:
“PCR materials create a new challenge, especially with the increased demand and the need to preserve resources and reduce energy consumption. We have recently invested more than £5M rebuilding and extending our premises which will increase productivity and efficiency substantially and are now able to process, and provide customers with, ex-kerbside PCR polypropylene based materials to meet this requirement.
“Working with us, Daniels Healthcare has not only chosen a reliable recycling solution, they have also gained a long-term partner which prides itself on quality, service and in-depth knowledge. We’re thrilled to be working with the innovative Daniels Healthcare team.”
