Celebrating the UK’s top infection prevention teams
Daniels Healthcare is proud to sponsor the annual IPS Team of the Year award, presented to a team which has demonstrated cohesive teamwork to implement effective infection prevention initiatives and improve practice within their area.
And this year’s worthy winner is the Infection Prevention Team at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust. The whole team is enthusiastic and motivated and are a great example of effective team working.
This Infection Prevention Team has a long history of collaborative working across the whole health economy with the core objective of working with teams to achieve excellent patient outcomes.
It has successfully developed infection prevention professionals for the future using the IPS competency tool to underpin their learning. It works collaboratively from a hospital base with other agencies including GPs, dentists, care homes and their local health protection units.
The team has successfully provided support and leadership for sheltered housing and care home facilities, and their innovative projects have shown demonstrable success across the board.
In particular, team members have revolutionised Norovirus outbreak management in the local care home community and have successfully worked alongside the Community Rapid Intervention Team to greatly enhance the provision for flu prophylaxis. In addition, MRSA bacteraemia in care homes has dropped to one identified case since 2009.
Kim Corbett Nurse Manager Infection Prevention at Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust said: “I am extremely proud of our enthusiastic and dedicated team as they always go the extra mile to ensure that infection prevention & control and patient safety is maintained. It is great that they have been recognised with this award and is well deserved”.
Congratulations to every member of this dedicated and unified team.
There’s also some fantastic work going on within the Infection Prevention Team at the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust and the Infection Prevention and Control Team Burton Campus at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton, both shortlisted for the IPS Team of the Year Award. Well done to these enthusiastic and engaging teams on their forward-thinking accomplishments.
