byNew 800 Bed Hospital in Bristol Keen to Have Danicentres in Every Room | Our Work With North Bristol NHS Trust
Sam Millard, one of our Regional Sales Managers, has been doing some work with the Capital Projects Team at North Bristol NHS Trust and we thought it was an interesting project to share with you, our readers. The new Hospital is undergoing a major new build which is probably the last of the PFI builds currently planned to go ahead. The project is said to be costing £430million and – looking at the facilities and scope of the project – will offer patients the very best of care of what will be one of Europe’s leading hospitals opening in spring 2014. (Read more about it here.) One of the eye-opening benefits for future patients will be the end of traditional wards as we know them. Seventy five percent of bedrooms in this new 800 bed hospital will be en suite, single bed accomodation.
As part of the new build the architects have involved many areas of interest within the Trust, one of whom was the Infection Prevention team (and more specifically Samantha Matthews, with whom Sam works closely). North Bristol NHS Trust is a committed Daniels customer for both our SHARPSGUARD® containers and our Danicentres (pictured right).
The build has opted for products which are state of the art and easy to clean and maintain to facilitate the best infection control. They have opted to purchase approx 1500 Danicentres for their bedrooms and clinical rooms for the containment and dispensing of gloves and aprons – which is unprecedented and very much forward thinking. Which means we will have several lorries (about 38 pallets) delivering the new Danicentres to the new hospital in line with the building programme.
It is really uplifting to be in a position to work with a hospital project like this, where you can clearly see that infection control (a subject dear to our hearts) has been part of the main focus of design right from the very beginning of the planning stages for this build. They have adopted a ‘point of use’ process for the disposal of Sharps and have therefore opted to use our sharps container injection trays rather than brackets on the walls.
