  byKeep On Tweeting – @TheBestJoan’s Tweet-a-thon
Daniels is sponsoring Joan Pons Laplana (@TheBestJoan) in the Liverpool Rock’n’Roll Marathon this month, in aid of the Cavell Nurses Trust. But this isn’t any ordinary run. Joan’s running it with a twist and turning it into a Tweetathon – Tweeting live while he pounds the city’s pavements…
Tweet and Shout
On 29th May, we’ll be cheering on Joan Pons Laplana (@thebestjoan) as he Tweets his way around Liverpool’s Rock’n’Roll Marathon course. Joan will be stopping at every mile point on the city’s course to post a selfie and a fact about Edith Cavell and the Cavell Nurses Trust, the charity he’s running for.
Cavell Nurses Trust is a charity that helps nurses, midwives, HCA and students who are going through financial hardship. The charity was established in 1917 in memory of Edith Cavell, a British World War I nurse who saved the lives of soldiers from both sides, and helped over 200 Allied soldiers escape from German-occupied Belgium. Last year, the trust helped over 1,300 people and Joan wants to help them to raise funds to continue to help more people in the future.

We Can Work It Out
So what inspired Joan to decide to Tweet his way around a rock’n’roll run? A few years ago, after his marriage ended, he was struggling to juggle his finances, having to pay for extra rent and bills. He nearly became homeless, but the Royal College of Nursing Benevolent Fund came to his rescue and gave him financial and social support to help him get back on his feet. He says: “Thanks to them, I’m still doing the profession I love. I know how stressful it is to have to choose between paying the electricity bill or buying food. It’s very easy to get into debt problems.”
We think it’s a fantastic cause, so we’re sponsoring Joan’s mile 5. And it doesn’t stop there. Joan will be taking #DANIbear along on his Tweetathon – our teddy that travels the UK with Daniels Healthcare staff and customers, encouraging Twitter conversations. Ready, teddy, go…
