At Daniels Healthcare, we’re proud of the role we play in supporting not only healthcare professionals but also the communities in which our people live and work.
This year, we sponsored the Scottish Bike Trial BIU European Cup and Championship at the Bob MacGregor Trials Academy in Ayrshire, a grassroots sporting event that showcased dedication, skill, and community spirit.
A proud moment for Scottish trials
The May 2025 event marked a major step for the Scottish Bike Trial organisation. Hosting their first BIU (BikeTrial International Union) European Cup, it was the first time in nearly eight years that a European Cup had been held, and the very first time one had taken place in Scotland.
The response was remarkable, especially with the short notice: 59 riders from across 11 categories competed, ranging from under-10 youth riders through to C1, the elite adult category. The competition drew athletes from Italy, Spain, and Slovakia, with Slovakia fielding the largest team.
The event attracted an enthusiastic crowd, with more than 200 spectators gathered at the former quarry site in Ayrshire to cheer on the competitors. For many, it was their first experience of watching trials riding up close; balancing, hopping, and climbing through technical obstacles with extraordinary precision.

Current and former world champions added extra excitement, including 2024 World Champion Oliver Weightman, who claimed victory in the C1 elite class, and his brother Eddie Weightman, who topped the C3 category.
A family-centred, inclusive sport
While the competition brought together some of the best riders in Europe, it also celebrated inclusivity and community. The event’s H categories allowed riders of all ages and abilities to take part, ensuring that both younger and older competitors could experience the thrill of the sport.
From H1, which lets experienced adult riders compete on the U16s course, to H3, designed to give children and adults alike the chance to ride the U10s course, this structure ensures that bike trials remain open and family-friendly.
For our colleague Steven Boyle, Sales Director UK & Ireland, the event was particularly meaningful. His children, Isla and Finlay, both took part and met legendary Red Bull rider, Danny MacAski, who was attending the event. “It’s brilliant to see them inspired by such talented riders,” said Steven. “They loved being part of something that brought together families, volunteers and professionals from all over Europe.”

Why sponsorship matters
David Johnstone, Treasurer for the Scottish Bike Trial, and Chair of BikeTrial Federation UK, said “Scottish Bike Trial’s success in hosting the European Cup was made possible by the combined effort of its volunteers, sponsors, and local supporters. Without external backing, events of this scale would simply not be possible.
The sponsorship from Mauser Packaging Solutions helped to ensure the event could go ahead and created a legacy beyond the competition itself. All equipment purchased for the European Cup has since been reused at subsequent Scottish Bike Trial Championship rounds, raising professional standards and supporting an impressive 20% increase in entries this year.
This support has also encouraged more children and adults to get involved in outdoor sport, promoting fitness, resilience, and teamwork.”
Building a legacy for the future
Feedback from the governing body, the BikeTrial International Union, has been overwhelmingly positive, praising both the organisation and the atmosphere of the Scottish event. The success has inspired hopes that Scotland might one day host a European or World Championship.
For Daniels Healthcare, this partnership represents exactly what corporate social responsibility is about, contributing to communities, supporting young people, and helping build something lasting.
We’re incredibly proud to have played a small part in this achievement and look forward to seeing Scottish Bike Trial continue to grow.
Giving back to community
At Daniels Healthcare, our focus is always on safety, sustainability, and supporting people. While much of our work involves healthcare settings, we believe in extending that support to community initiatives where it can make a real difference.
The Scottish Bike Trial Championships are a perfect example. We’re proud to have played a part in ensuring this grassroots event not only continues but grows, helping to put Ayrshire on the map as a home of Scottish and European trials sport.
