byExciting updates to the POUDS® Range: a greener future and enhanced functionality
At Daniels Healthcare, we’re always striving to improve our products to better serve our customers and the environment. Today, we’re thrilled to announce significant updates to our POUDS® (Point of Use Disposal System) range, reflecting our ongoing commitment to sustainability, safety, and innovation.
100% PCR Materials: A Greener Choice
One of the most exciting changes is the shift to using 100% Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) materials for our POUDS® accessories. This means that the trays in our POUDS® range are now made entirely from kerbside recycled plastic sourced from the North West of England. This transition significantly reduces the environmental impact of our products, helping us contribute to a more sustainable future.
In line with our sustainability efforts, our small wall brackets have also made this transition. While the larger wall brackets and square leg trolley adapters are not yet fully converted, we are committed to moving these items to PCR materials as soon as existing stock runs out. From this point forward, the vast majority* of POUDS® accessories will be manufactured using 100% PCR.
The colour of our POUDS® products will also change; rather than the traditional white trays or orange brackets, our new PCR-based products will be grey. This is a natural result of the recycled plastic’s inherent colour, and it means we’re no longer adding additional colouring (known as masterbatch) to achieve the coloured finish.
Introducing the POUDS® kidney+ tray
Listening to our customers is a cornerstone of our product development process, and we’re excited to unveil the new POUDS® kidney+ tray, an evolution of our popular tray with a kidney-shaped recess. This updated tray is designed to accommodate our larger 3.75L SHARPSGUARD® container, alongside the existing 2.5L container.
For years, customers have requested a tray that fits a larger container, and we’ve answered the call. The 3.75L container provides a 34.84% increase in usable capacity compared to the 2.5L container. This improvement means fewer container changes, which not only saves time and money but also reduces environmental impact.
Pete Williamson, Clinical & Sales Support Manager (Healthcare UK & Europe), said: “As we continue to innovate and enhance our offerings, we remain dedicated to providing solutions that are not only safe and effective but also environmentally conscious to meet all of your needs.”
Enhancing safety with POUDS® accessories
Safety is at the heart of the POUDS® range. Needle stick injuries often occur when sharps are not disposed of immediately after use. The POUDS® accessories are designed to mitigate this risk by bringing SHARPSGUARD® containers closer to the point of use, whether they’re stationary or in transport.
Our POUDS® accessories support compliance with EU Directive 2010/32, which aims to prevent sharps injuries in healthcare settings. By using POUDS® products, healthcare providers can ensure that sharps are disposed of safely and efficiently, reducing the likelihood of injuries to staff.
