Carbon Reduction Plan
Publication date: March 2025
Commitment to achieving Net Zero
Mauser UK Ltd. is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions no later than 2050. We engage in intense supply chain collaboration to bring this target date forward.
Baseline Emissions Footprint
Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.
Baseline Year: 2020 – (1st January 2020 – 31st December 2020) |
Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations. |
- Baseline reporting includes Scope 1, Scope 2 and selected Scope 3 emission – ratio:
- Baseline emissions reported are in-line with Mauser Packaging Solutions initial Global Corporate environmental footprint screening conducted in early 2022.
- The initial reporting includes energy, water, waste & refrigerant usage data, as well as Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions related to energy and refrigerant usage. Reporting is to cover Scope 3 emissions (prioritising of categories based on emission relevance) over the coming years.
- To support transparent communication of environmental footprint of products/packaging served, in-house Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) resp. PEF (Product Environmental Footprint) capabilities have been established. Conducted LCA outlines raw materials used to contribute majority share to overall carbon footprint of products served.
- As such and to track most relevant improvements in reduction of material usage and increase use of recycled materials, baseline and current emissions reporting referenced in this document include Scope 3 emissions related to amount of plastics material converted / shipped. During baseline year 2020 – all products / packaging served was produced from 100% virgin, fossil based feedstock.

Emissions reduction targets
In mid-2022, we completed our first company-wide analysis of our energy consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for both 2020 (our baseline year) and 2021. For this initial analysis, we have focused on our Scope 1 (direct) emissions and Scope 2 (indirect) GHG emissions.
Over the coming years, we plan to expand our GHG accounting efforts to develop appropriate energy and emissions intensity metrics, reduction targets, and include Scope 3 emissions by category (based on an to be established relevance screening).
In-line with our company’s corporate initiative, and in order to continue our progress to achieving NetZero, we currently envision to decrease our carbon emissions by ~ 20% by 2030 compared to our 2020 baseline evaluation.
Carbon Reduction Projects
The following environmental management measures and projects have been completed or implemented since the 2020 baseline. The carbon emission reduction achieved by these schemes equate to ~6.225 tCO2e, a 30% reduction against the 2020 baseline and the measures will be in effect when performing the contract.
- Mauser UK Ltd. internal “Net-Zero Project” to drive local actions on carbon reduction
- Environmental and Energy Policy update with “Efficiency in converting material and energy, coupled with innovation in processes and products” to be “core elements of our business philosophy”
- 3rd party certification of ISO 14001 – Environmental Management – and ISO 50001 – Energy Management – on annual basis
- Bi-annual sustainability report in line with GRI reporting guidelines on corporate level
- In-house Life Cycle Analysis / Product Carbon Footprint capabilities to support transparent end user communication and drive carbon reduction on products supplied.
- Introduction of new product ranges – SHARPSGUARD® eco, SHAPRSGUARD® eco pharmi & Infinity Series™, – made from recycled plastics.
- Established local – UK based and derived – PCR supply. Substitution of virgin plastic feedstock by PCR equates to ~ 4.350 tCO2e reduction compared to 2020 base year.
- Electric and Hybrid company car policy, including the installation of charge points at the plant – transfer from combustion to electrical/hybrid cars contributed to ~ 19,6 tCO2e, a 40% reduction compared to 2020 base year.
- Purchased electricity change to 100% biomass contributing to ~ 1.932 t CO2e reduction compared to location based factoring.
- Employee support with a cycle to work scheme, providing a bike shelter and facilities to shower.
In the future we target to implement further measures such as:
- Extend carbon emission reporting to include Scope 3 emission (of relevance for our business)
- Increase use of recycled materials based on availability
- Electrify combustion energy where possible – increase purchase of green energy
- Continuous investment in more efficient equipment where required
- Collaborate with our suppliers on setting and improve own carbon reduction targets
- Stipulate customer collaboration on packaging solutions made from carbon neutral materials purchase carbon neutral materials based on market acceptance
- Local UK production of packaging currently traded – e.g. WIVA™ medical waste bin – at no/lower transport emission
- Encourage the use of electronic communication over travel, where practical
- Strengthen internal communication about our commitments to achieve Net Zero on site. Provide carbon literacy training to key staff.
