The spirit of partnership during COVID-19

The spirit of partnership. Puzzle pieces coming together.

We’ve all heard the saying “two heads are better than one” when it comes to solving problems. The arrival of one of the most harmful infectious diseases in human history, and the ensuing challenges, has led to a level of collaboration, cooperation and ‘heads’, the likes of which the world has never seen.

Public and private organisations are coming together to share data, resources and treatments in a concerted effort in the fight against coronavirus.

We’re all in this together

Protecting and supporting the NHS was, and still is, at the forefront of everyone’s minds. With the first spike of cases, demands on the NHS began to grow, and so did the waste generated during treatment of COVID-19. Consequently, the frequency and volume of orders of our sharps containers; a crucial part of protecting healthcare environments, suddenly intensified.

While we maximised output at our factory, our priority was ensuring the continual, and urgent, supply of products to the NHS. In an evolving, fast-paced scenario such as this, a “do-it-alone” approach is never going to provide the scale and resolution needed to meet such unprecedented demand, so we reached out to our strategic collaborators.

The power of partnerships

One of these key alliances is with ENL, a plastic injection moulding company, based in Portsmouth, with over 60 years’ experience. They quickly ramped up production of our SHARPSGUARD® theatre⁺ container from five days a week to seven days a week, 24/7.

ENL Operations Manager, Kevin Osborne, says: “Our business is run by the people at the sharp end and it was down to them that we were able to provide this high level of service. We asked for volunteers within the team to work 12-hr weekend shifts to reach maximum capacity and they are the ones who made the difference.

“We are proud to have been able to support the NHS through Daniels, especially in providing SHARPSGUARD® theatre⁺ to the new Nightingale Hospitals, and our staff have been recognised for their hard work.”

Kevin adds: “In business, you want to work with other companies who share common goals and have complementary strengths. You need to have trust and an ease of communication – we have all of this with Daniels”.

Stronger together

We believe that partnerships are key to better serving our customers by combining talent, expertise, technology and purpose, especially with long-standing businesses such an ENL.

Daniels Product Development & Technical Support Manager, Marc Wood, says there are too many great things to mention about ENL: “They are experts in their field, flexible and their customer service is rapid and supportive. It also helps that they share a lot of the same values as us on quality and reliability.

“At the end of the day, we don’t do business with other businesses, we do business with other people. We have a great relationship with the team at ENL; a real partnership which is now stronger than ever.”
